SMS Policy
Effective October 20, 2026
This policy describes BMAAP Community Updates, the planned optional text-message program of BMAAP — the Black-American Muslim Archival Access Project, a program of The Floating Freedom Foundation.
Current text-message enrollment
Enrollment is not open. BMAAP has not activated an SMS signup or sending number on this website. The committee application does not collect a mobile number or text-message consent. Submitting an application, visiting the website, or making a donation does not enroll you in recurring BMAAP text messages.
What the program will send
Once launched, BMAAP Community Updates will provide project milestones, committee and volunteer opportunities, and event reminders. Subscribers will receive up to four messages per month. A one-time enrollment confirmation, help reply, or opt-out confirmation may also be sent when requested. Some messages may be sent using automated technology.
Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile plan. Delivery depends on mobile networks and is not guaranteed. Text messages are not an emergency or urgent-support service.
Joining will require separate permission
When enrollment opens, you will be able to join only through a signup that requests your mobile number and a separate, unselected consent choice for BMAAP Community Updates. The signup will link to this policy and our Privacy Policy, identify the sender, and disclose the program’s frequency, possible automated messages, rates, and STOP and HELP instructions before you consent.
Text-message consent will not be required to donate, apply to the committee, or participate in BMAAP. You must be authorized to use the mobile number you enroll. We will publish the active sending number and confirm that consent records, support, and opt-out processing work before accepting enrollments.
Opt-out and help
After launch, reply STOP to a BMAAP Community Updates message to end the subscription, or reply HELP for assistance. You may also request help or opt out by emailing correspondence@bmaap.org. We will honor clear requests to stop BMAAP text messages. An opt-out may be followed by one message confirming the request; further program messages will stop unless you opt in again.
These reply functions will be activated and tested before enrollment opens. If you receive a text claiming to be from BMAAP now, contact the email above so we can investigate. Please identify the sending number and the number that received the message, but do not send passwords, payment details, or identity documents.
Mobile privacy
Once enrollment opens, we will use mobile numbers, opt-in records, message interactions, and opt-out records to deliver the requested updates, document consent and preferences, provide support, and meet legal requirements. We do not sell mobile numbers or share them, or SMS consent, with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Service providers may process this information only as needed to support message delivery and administration.
